Hello! Meet Paul & Roxie - founders of the 'Blue Light Bar & Coffee stop'
Established in 2019 Blue Light started as an idea discussed over breakfast but quickly became a reality and full time business. Paul, a former West Sussex firefighter, had always wanted to own a fire engine (who wouldn't!)
. However, its not exactly the type of vehicle you can keep on your drive as a second vehicle. The idea of converting a 'London's burning' style fire engine into a mobile bar began and in March 2020 'Denise' (affectionately nicknamed) was born.
Closely followed during the conversion by Channel four's TV show 'George Clarke's amazing spaces' airing in January 2021, the process was a steep learning curve and tested our DIY skills!
'Denise' is kept on a local farm in Horley also home to 'Simon's free range egg & farm shop' and started serving local people on a regular basis with off sales and coffee during the pandemic. Having caught the conversion bug we didn't stop at the fire engine!
In October 2020 we added to our fleet with a horse box conversion that sits on the farm alongside 'Denise' serving light breakfast & lunch options, coffee, smoothies and milkshakes Monday -Saturday 10am - 5pm.
Denise lives on the farm when she is not out and about at events and makes a great talking point and photo backdrop for visitors to the farm. You will often find us at the farm pottering about the fire engine and having a good chinwag over a cuppa so pop down, introduce yourself and grab a brew (or a beer)
At the centre of our business is a real passion and drive to support local emergency services.
We have worked to create a safe space for emergency services to pop in, grab a brew and take five minutes to themselves when they get the chance.
When visiting the farm you will see our
'Got your back' board - a scheme which gives members of the public the chance to pay their thanks forward by purchasing a hot drink token that can be redeemed by any emergency service personnel on duty.
Paul was medically retired from West Sussex fire service and received amazing care from The Fire Fighters charity.
